About Fort Burgoyne

Fort Burgoyne is a scheduled ancient monument set in a unique and dramatic location beside Dover Castle and overlooking the White Cliffs of Dover and the busy English Channel.

Built in the 1860s to help defend Dover Castle, the fort is an important part of the country’s military history. The Land Trust took ownership in 2014, with a long‑term vision to bring the site back into use as a valuable community space.

The site today

With its striking architecture, open grounds, and historic buildings, Fort Burgoyne offers a space full of potential both for heritage and community use.

The site is being carefully developed to:

  • Create a welcoming environment for visitors and local communities
  • Preserve its historic character
  • Improve access and usability
